Staff members call out Monday at Carrboro middle school after student threatened employee
More than a dozen staff members called out Monday at a Carrboro middle school after a student threatened staff members last week.
"I’m writing to let you know that we are expecting a higher than usual number of staff absences on Monday," Principal Chris Horne said in a message to the McDougle Middle School community.
Horne said 15 staff members are expected to be out Monday.
"We know some of the staff absences relate to the school safety matter that was addressed and brought to your attention last week," Horne said.
"While I’m unable to describe specific details related to an individual student, I would like to offer my assurance that a thorough safety plan is in place, reviewed and vetted by district administration, to ensure that all students and staff have a safe and enjoyable day at school."
Horne said a coverage plan is in place with the assistance of substitute teachers. Officer Kennedy, the school resource officer assigned to Carrboro Middle and Elementary schools, will also be at McDougle Monday.
