The Aam Aadmi Party has been ordered to vacate its Delhi office by June 15. The Supere Court gave the rulling party extra time in light of the impending Lok Sabha elections.
Since the office is situated on land that the Delhi High Court was granted in order to expand a district court, the Aam Aadmi Party is ordered to leave the space.
In addition, the Supreme Court directed AAP to apply to the Land and Development Office for a land allocation for its offices.
It has mandated that the party’s request be processed by the Land and Development Office in a timeframe of four weeks. Additionally, it requested that the department notify everyone of its decision by the deadline.
The Aam Aadmi Party argued that since its party office is close to the Rouse Avenue court, it is not an encroachment because it was allocated long before the space was set aside for the court’s expansion, as per a report.
According to AAP lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi, the NCT used the land from 1993 till 2015, when AAP was granted ownership. He mentioned that the AAP is one of the six national parties in India.
AM Singhvi said the BJP has a comparable-sized office in the same location. He did add, according to the website, that they are put on the road two months before the elections.
Singhvi said the AAP has been asked to establish an office in Delhi’s Badarpur area. In addition, he claimed that LNDO has two plots at the same location that AAP could be granted.
All other parties would have to follow suit if the AAP was compelled to relocate to Badarpur. The party ought to secure a location in the heart of Delhi, he said.
The AAP was later given till June 15, 2024, by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, to leave the property so that land allotted to extend district judiciary footprint can be used.
