'How do you miss people in a room?': Texas couple trapped inside urgent care clinic
A Texas couple is still in shock after being locked inside an urgent care clinic.
Austin Jennings and Tirado Jennings said they went to the urgent care clinic so Austin could receive treatment for strep throat and the flu.
“I made an appointment for 6 p.m., [because] they said that was the earliest they could see me,” he said.
The doctor at the clinic prescribed a breathing treatment, and then Tirado said the nurses promised to come back when Austin finished the treatment, but then they heard some goodbyes.
“Like, ‘Alright see you guys later,’ and you know I’m thinking [the] front desk is leaving because we’re there,” she said, adding the office then got quiet afterward.
The couple said they remained in the assigned patient room but grew concerned as time passed.
“I was like… ‘What if they forgot about us?’” Tirado said.
Tirado said her husband left the room to use the bathroom and noticed the clinic was pitch black. Suddenly, the alarms in the building went off.
“The alarm lady was like, ‘Hey, [is] everything okay?’ We were like, ‘No,’” Tirado said.
The couple called Mont Belvieu Police, who confirmed the couple was trapped inside. After two hours stuck inside, the couple went back to their car.
“Who do you miss people in a room?” Austin said.
The couple said they haven’t heard from the business since being trapped inside the clinic.
“It’s unacceptable,” Donlee Smith, the couple’s attorney, said. “This should have been made right. If I’m a business owner [and] if I do something wrong, it’s my job to acknowledge [it] and make it right.”
Smith said he’s trying to help the couple get their $50 copay back, the prescription Austin went to the clinic for and an apology from the clinic.
“Just something. An acknowledgment [or] an apology,” Tirado said.
Smith said he received a call from the clinic, saying the clinic would refund the co-pay and write a prescription for Austin, but the couple themselves are still waiting for an apology call from the clinic.
