We could be in for a foggy start on Monday as we prepare for two rain systems moving in this week.

It will be mild and dry to start the day Monday, lows will be in the low-to-mid 50s.

Some light rain is possible Monday afternoon, but it should be dry for the morning commute, other than a stray spotty sprinkle.

Temperatures will remain well above normal with highs in the upper 60s and low 70s.

We're also starting to see the effects of pollen season, with tree pollen being the biggest culprit.

Winter 2023-24 passes without snow for Raleigh

March 1 marks the beginning of meteorological spring, pushing the likelihood for a snowfall this season even further down the charts.

The winter of 2023-24 was a disappointment for snow lovers.

Through Saturday, March 2, 2024, it had been more than two full years – 763 days – without measurable snow (Jan. 29, 2022 saw .4 inches) at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. This is the third-longest snow drought on record at RDU.

"At this point, the odds of getting snow are quite low," said WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth. "We thought we might get at least some snow this year because it's an El Niño year. Our research showed that we typically get measurable snow during El Niño years."

Wilmoth said winter 23-24 was warm (tied for the fourth warmest on record) and wet. Although moisture has been in place, it never lined up with any cold snaps.

Eyes on the sky for 2024 total solar eclipse

April 8 is the date of the next total solar eclipse for North America. We won't see a total eclipse in North Carolina, but lots of people will travel to take it in! Ohio will be the closest spot to drive to from Raleigh for the path of totality.
