Daniel Ricciardo branded his new teammate Yuki Tsunoda 'a f***ing helmet' after the pair nearly collided in Bahrain.

The RB teammates narrowly avoided a crash during the cool-down lap following the Bahrain Grand Prix when Tsunoda dive-bombed down the inside of the Australian.

Locking up heavily in the process, Tsunoda missed Ricciardo's car by a matter of inches, leaving the 34-year-old fuming on the team radio.

He could be heard saying: "What the f***?! I'll save it. He's a f***ing helmet!"

Tsunoda was left frustrated by team orders for the drivers to swap positions during the race, meaning that Ricciardo finished the race in 13th with the Japanese star in 14th.

Addressing the incident post-race, Ricciardo told F1 TV: "I came on the radio and was trying to stay cool. A bit of immaturity, let's say that.

"I'm being very sensible right now, but let's call it immaturity. He's obviously frustrated with the team orders call.

"But let's be real, this is something we talked about before the race. It was very likely I was going to use a soft at the end of the race.

"So he knew that there was a chance that I would have a pace advantage at the end and if he gets the call, then it's going to happen.

"He's not giving me points, we're fighting for 13th, so at least give us the best chance to get at least one car in the points."

Both Ricciardo and Tsunoda will have the chance to put on a united front when they take to the track for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix next week.
