Woman shot at Smithfield home

A woman was shot Thursday at a Smithfield home.

According to Smithfield Police Department, officers around noon responded to a home on Whitley Drive.

According to Chief Pete Hedrick, a woman was shot by a person she knew and transported by Johnston County EMS to the hospital.

There was no threat to the public, according to police, who are searching for the suspect.

The extent of the woman's injuries were unknown.

An investigation is ongoing.
