Alstom, a renowned leader in intelligent and eco-friendly transportation solutions, is elated to announce the triumph of Fran Coult, a Supply Chain Apprentice, at the prestigious Rail Business Awards 2024. Fran has been honored with the title of Young Professional of the Year, a testament to her exceptional contributions to the UK rail industry, particularly for individuals under 35.
Marking its 26th edition, the Rail Business Awards commend excellence across various facets of the UK rail sector, spanning from day-to-day operations, safety standards, and customer service to groundbreaking technical advancements and large-scale projects. As the oldest and most esteemed national accolades in the UK rail domain, these awards serve as a platform to celebrate the remarkable individuals and organizations whose foresight, innovation, and dedication play pivotal roles in shaping the industry’s trajectory.
Hailing from Ecclesall in Sheffield, the 23-year-old commenced her journey with Alstom in September 2020. Since then, she has delved into various realms of the company’s supply chain, encompassing logistics, customer service enhancement, refining operational methodologies, and spearheading efficiency drives.
Despite being the youngest contender in this year’s Rail Business Awards, judges lauded her for showcasing remarkable breadth and depth in her role, coupled with an admirable willingness to embrace adaptation, learning, and serving as an inspiration.
During her tenure at Alstom, she engineered a fresh operational strategy, prompting the company to invest £3 million towards augmenting delivery performance. Additionally, she orchestrated substantial cost savings by implementing streamlined processes for monitoring stock inventory and utilization.
In recent times, Fran’s ingenuity has extended further as she actively supported the Alstom Communications team across their diverse spectrum of tasks and obligations. Notably, she orchestrated media visits to Alstom facilities and supervised broadcast documentary shoots featuring the organization. Furthermore, she takes charge of internal staff updates and curates content for the local social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).
The Rail Business Awards 2024 ceremony unfolded on Thursday, 22nd February, at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate.
“I am truly honoured, and it is a fantastic recognition of the achievements I have made since I joined this amazing industry. Dealing with different challenges and stakeholders, my personal and professional development with Alstom throughout my apprenticeship has been vast. I look forward to continuing to shape my career in rail and push for further positive changes across equality, diversity and inclusion within the industry,” said Fran Coult, Supply Chain Apprentice at Alstom.
Before embarking on her journey with Alstom, Fran pursued a BTEC in Business and Law at Sheffield College. Amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, she also served as a key worker at her local Co-op supermarket, demonstrating her commitment to community service.
Currently enrolled as a Level 6 (degree) apprentice at Alstom, Fran is actively pursuing a BA (Hons) Professional Practice in Supply Chain at Sheffield Hallam University. Anticipated to complete her studies later this year, she is dedicated to furthering her knowledge and expertise in the field.
