In a revealing insight into travel trends for 2023, data indicates that air travel has solidified its position as the predominant mode of international transport, accounting for over 60% of outbound journeys. Despite the air travel’s dominance for long-haul connections, the findings also highlighted a preference for public transport as the main method of moving around destinations, with a noteworthy one-fifth of travelers opting for rental cars.
These trends underscore the evolving dynamics of travel preferences and the increasing emphasis on sustainability and convenience among travelers.
This year, attendees of the ITB Berlin Convention 2024, scheduled from March 5th to 7th, will have the opportunity to delve deeper into these and other industry insights. The convention, renowned as the tourism industry’s leading think tank, is set to explore the future of tourism across 17 thematic tracks and four stages. Participants can look forward to engaging lectures from industry giants such as Booking, TUI, Google, and Phocuswright, among others. These sessions are poised to offer practical insights into the evolving landscape of tourism, addressing topics from digital innovation to sustainability in travel.
In a continued partnership with IPK International, ITB Berlin will present the latest findings from the World Travel Monitor, an expansive survey that sheds light on global outbound travel trends. IPK International, under the leadership of Dennis Pyka since 2022, has been at the forefront of tourism research, marketing, and planning, making the World Travel Monitor a key resource for understanding travel behaviors. The survey, which compiles data from over 60 countries and represents more than 90% of the global demand for outbound travel, is an invaluable tool for industry stakeholders.
Since its inception in 1966, ITB Berlin has established itself as the world’s leading travel trade show, providing a platform for professionals across the travel industry to connect, learn, and innovate. The upcoming ITB Berlin Convention promises to further this legacy, offering a comprehensive program under the theme “Pioneer the Transition in Travel & Tourism. Together.”
