Since its premiere on December 8, Yorgos Lanthimos's Poor Things has been pretty damn successful the box office, earning $100 million worldwide. Variety reports the film is the second arthouse title to accomplish the feat since the pandemic, coming in second place to Everything Everywhere All at Once. That's not the only good news—Hulu just announced that the film will hit the platform on March 7.

Clearly, Stone’s portrayal of Bella Baxter—a resurrected science-experiment-turned-globetrotter—has delighted audiences around the world. Back in January, her performance won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. During her acceptance speech, Stone explained how working with Lanthimos changed her life. "Playing Bella was unbelievable," Stone said. "I see this as a rom-com, but in the sense that Bella falls in love with life itself rather than a person. She accepts the good and the bad in equal measure, and that made me look at life differently. That all of it counts and all of it is important. She has stayed with me deeply. So, this means the world to me."Poor Things also took home hardware for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.

The film inspired not only Stone, but also critics: The film topped a slew of best-of lists in 2023. Why wouldn't it? I mean, have you ever wanted to see Willem Dafoe as a mad scientist with godlike abilities? Wish granted! Poor Things remixes the Frankenstein tale into a young woman's journey of self-discovery. Plus, it has a strange, melodic soundtrack, a journey around the world, and sumptuous period costumes.

If you want to know a little bit more about Poor Things—it's a trip! —the film is based on Alasdair Gray's novel of the same name. The film follows Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), who was created by Godwin Baxter (Dafoe) to test the boundaries of science and medicine. Bella has the brain of a child—and Godwin slowly becomes attached to her as a paternal figure. As Bella matures, she becomes fiercely independent and demands to see the world on her own terms, carving out a life that is full of rich and wild experiences.

Until Poor Things's Hulu debut, you can buy the film on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. Just make sure you catch the film before the Academy Awards on March 10—this is the year you finally win your Oscars betting pool.
