Simon Jordan and Danny Murphy clashed live on talkSPORT over Erik ten Hag and Jamie Carragher’s spat.

Carragher questioned Ten Hag’s coaching in a long segment on Monday Night Football and the Manchester United manager took the unusual step of deciding to publicly respond.

Ten Hag fired back at Carragher in his press conference

Ten Hag said on Tuesday: "Some analysts are very objective and some are very subjective.

"Jamie Carragher, from the first moment, has criticised and now he wants to make his point.”

Former Liverpool midfielder Murphy criticised Ten Hag for feeling the need to publicly address those comments from his old teammate in a press conference.

He told talkSPORT: “I think any manager who starts responding to any pundits work is losing the battle.

“A manager who is completely focused and has self-belief in what they are doing, would not feel the need to defend and analyse and criticise a pundit who is not working in the game as a manager.

“You are already above the pundit, you are at Manchester United for a reason. You do not need to justify and analyse what a pundit says or does. I think you’ve lost if you do.”

This sparked a lively back-and-forth with former Crystal Palace owner Jordan, who argued that it is within Ten Hag’s right to call out criticism like that.

Jordan: “When you are criticising the team selection and the message that is being delivered, you are questioning the prowess and professional capability of the manager, his personal relationship and ability to deal with the players.”
