THE GAME: Shohei Ohtani hit a two-run home run in his spring debut and Chris Okey hit a three-run blast in a four-run eighth inning as the Dodgers rallied for a 9-6 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday at Glendale, Ariz.
PITCHING REPORT: Right-hander Bobby Miller gave up one run on two hits in two innings of work, while striking out one. Right-hander Michael Grove was touched for three runs on three hits in 1⅓ innings, while right-hander Gavin Stone gave up a run on a walk and a hit in one inning.
HITTING REPORT: Ohtani gave the crowd of 6,678 what it came to see when he followed an early strikeout and a double-play grounder with his home run to the opposite field in left on a full-count pitch from right-hander Dominic Leone. “I thought I hit it a little too high initially, but maybe it was the Arizona factor,” Ohtani said through interpreter Ippei Mizuhara. Mookie Betts had a hit out of the leadoff spot, while Freddie Freeman went 0 for 2 as the Big Three lineup made its debut.
POWER POP-UP: Manager Dave Roberts on Ohtani’s high fly home run to left field: “You know, with Ohtani, he’s so special that he really didn’t (make solid contact) but he has so much margin for error that he hits a fly ball and it happens to go out of the ballpark.”
WIN MACHINE: The Dodgers remained the only unbeaten MLB team this spring at 5-0-1.
