Marking the fifth anniversary of Sustainable Meetings Berlin, the Estrel Berlin, the biggest hotel, congress, and entertainment complex in Europe, has been recognized as a sustainable partner. This distinction was not only achieved by the Estrel Hotel and the Estrel Congress Center after a rigorous evaluation but also marked the entire establishment as a leader in sustainability.
Aligned with the principles of Sustainable Meetings Certification, Estrel Berlin has developed an extensive approach to sustainability. The establishment proudly operates on 100% renewable energy and enhances its energy production with solar panels. It has undertaken significant energy-saving initiatives, such as switching to LED lighting throughout its hotel rooms, offices, and communal areas, and is in the process of updating event lighting to eco-friendlier options. Efforts to save water include installing low-flow taps and showerheads, along with a greywater recycling system. The property’s advanced waste management practices ensure efficient separation, recycling, and the safe handling of hazardous waste. In place of disposable water bottles, modern water dispensers have been introduced. The sustainability agenda further encompasses reducing plastic use and employing reusable items in its catering services. The “Estrel Share” refrigerator exemplifies the property’s commitment to reducing food waste by offering leftover food to staff at no cost. The hotel’s engagement with charities supports the reduction of food waste and promotes the use of locally sourced and organic food.
“Strong partners are crucial for implementing great ideas,” says Mihaela Djuranovic, Sustainability Manager at the Estrel Berlin, and emphasizes, “The Sustainable Meetings Berlin initiative brings together players from the same sectors in a common mission. The local and global challenges of the present and future can only be overcome together.”
The Estrel Berlin combines a hotel, congress, and entertainment venue, boasting 1,125 rooms and suites, four restaurants, three bars, a summer garden, a wellness and fitness center, and a vast collection of modern art. The complex includes the Estrel Congress Center (ECC), spanning 30,000 square meters (approximately 323,000 square feet), and the Estrel Show Theatre, offering high-quality entertainment throughout the year.
