The Steamboat Stampede 19U girls hockey team won the Colorado Girls Hockey Mountain League Championship with a 2-0 win over Aspen on Sunday in Eagle.
Head coach Mike Nelson was impressed with the strong goaltending all weekend from Audrey Becker, who allowed just one goal in the team’s three playoff games.
The Stampede finished the season 34-2-2 and 22-0-2 in league play, and now turn their heads to the Colorado Amateur Hockey Association 19U Girls State Championships from Friday to Sunday in Denver.
Led by a strong core of five seniors, the Stampede look to return the state trophy back to Steamboat after relinquishing the title in the finals last season.
