Crew damages gas line on NC 86 near Hillsborough, Dominion Energy says

A reported gas leak is blocking a section of North Carolina 86 near Hillsborough.

Around 10 a.m., the Orange County Sheriff's Office reported a large emergency presence on N.C. 86 near the Sheetz, Walmart and Chrysler dealership because of a gas leak.

Dominion Energy said it shut off the gas after a crew damaged a gas line.

"An excavation crew damaged our gas line as they were working in the area," Dominion Energy told WRAL News. "The fire department just reopened the road. Only a couple of customers were affected, and we're working to restore their service."

Drivers were asked to avoid the area.

An employee at the Sheetz located at 1990 N.C. 86 told WRAL News the store was evacuated for about 30 minutes but business has returned to normal.
