Jude Bellingham has perfectly summed up Virgil van Dijk's Carabao Cup final performance, commenting: "What a player".

The Real Madrid star is a known admirer of the Reds having been heavily linked with a move to Anfield last summer and was clearly impressed by their display at Wembley.

Van Dijk was the match-winner for Liverpool at Wembley

Van Dijk was the captain of Liverpool side dubbed 'Klopp's kids' after finishing the game with five players under the age of 20 at the final whistle, with the Dutchman responsible for winning Liverpool's first trophy of the season.

Rising high in the penalty area, the 32-year-old guided a header beyond Djorde Petrovic to give Jurgen Klopp's side a 1-0 victory.

As a result, the Dutch star lifted the Carabao Cup for Liverpool while also scooping the man of the match award - the second time that he's done so in a League Cup final for the Reds.

Bellingham's reply clearly went down well, with more than 14,500 people liking his praise of the 32-year-old, who has silenced his critics with a message on the club's social media channels saying: "They thought i was finished," with a shrug of the shoulders.

It came after Van Dijk suggested that he could move on this summer, before quickly backtracking to reaffirm his commitment to the club.

"It's much taken out of context," he said in an interview with Men in Blazers. "To be 100 per cent clear, I'm fully committed to the club, I love the club, I love the fans, it is full taken out of context.

"It's not about me, it's not about I, it's about us and nothing has changed, five days ago we weren't even speaking about my contract so it's a bit silly.
