"What kind of creature's lurking inside Spiderwick?" The Roku Channel is premiering their own adaptation of The Spiderwick Chronicles series coming up in April this spring. Roku has revealed a teaser for the series adapted for TV by the writer Aron Eli Coleite (creator of "Daybreak", "Locke & Key"). The Spiderwick Chronicles book series was already adapted into a movie once before, directed by Mark Waters in 2008 with Freddie Highmore starring, and even a video game. The story follows the Grace Family, as they move into their ancestral home and unravel a dark mystery about their great-great Uncle who discovered the parallel, secret faerie world to their own. Their son Jared discovers a boggart and realizes that magical creatures are real! Off into the parallel universe he goes… The Roku series stars Lyon Daniels as Jared, Noah Cottrell, Joy Bryant, Mychala Lee, Jack Dylan Grazer, Christian Slater as Mulgarath, Momona Tamada, & Alyvia Alyn Lind. This certainly looks cheesy but at least it stars Christian Slater as an ominous bad guy.
Here's the first look teaser trailer for Roku's series The Spiderwick Chronicles, direct from YouTube:
Helen (Joy Bryant) and her children, 15-year-old fraternal twins Jared (Lyon Daniels) and Simon (Noah Cottrell) and their sister Mallory (Mychala Lee) move to their ancestral home, Spiderwick. Jared discovers a boggart and realizes that magical creatures are real! The only one to believe him is his great-aunt Lucinda who implores Jared to find the pages of her father's field guide to magical creatures and protect them from the murderous Ogre, Mulgarath. The Spiderwick Chronicles is a series created for TV by writer Aron Eli Coleite, creator of the series "Daybreak", "Locke & Key", "Ghost Tape" previously, and a writer of scripts for "Heroes", Home, The Proximity Effect, and The End. With writing by Jenn Kao, Hannah Ahn, Charlie Paulin, Jasmyne Peck, Dennis Saldua. It's adapted from the book series "The Spiderwick Chronicles" written by Tony DiTerlizzi & Holly Black. Featuring episodes directed by Kat Coiro (director of Marry Me) and Amanda Row. Executive produced by Aron Eli Coleite, Tony DiTerlizzi, Holly Black, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, Julie Kane-Ritsch, as well as Kat Coiro. The Roku Channel will debut The Spiderwick Chronicles series streaming on Roku starting April 19th, 2024 this spring. Who's interested?
