BSP MP Ritesh Pandey, who had lunch with PM Modi, quits Mayawati’s party, joins BJP
He further alleged that the BSP supremo Mayawati has also not spoken to him for a long time.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Ritesh Pandey on Sunday resigned from the party and joined BJP. He was one of the eight MPs who was surprised by PM Modi for the lunch in the Parliament canteen.
Pandey has said that his party does not need him any more as he has not been called for any meetings for a long time. He further alleged that the BSP supremo Mayawati has also not spoken to him for a long time.
The development comes days after Pandey met the Prime Minister over lunch, along with seven other opposition MPs in the Parliament canteen. After the lunch, he took to X and shared the picture with PM Modi and said it was truly an honour to be invited by PM Modi for lunch and learn how he used his insights from the 2001 Bhuj Earthquake to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. He thanked Modi for having them over. What an insightful discussion, he wrote.
Sharing his resignation on X, he wrote, “For a long time, neither am I being called to attend party meetings nor has the party leadership spoken to me. I made numerous efforts to get in touch with and meet you (Mayawati) and the top leadership of the party but it did not yield any result,” Pandey added in the resignation letter.
During this time, Pandey continuously met workers and supporters of other parties in his area and was also involved in various works going on in the constituency. Hence, he has come to the conclusion that the party does not need his service and presence, he further added.
On February 9, PM Modi joined eight MPs for a surprise lunch in the Parliament canteen. The video of their lunch went viral on the social media platforms.
Taking MPs for a surprise lunch, PM Modi told them he wanted to take them out as a punishment. Eight MPs cutting across party lines were told that PM Modi wants to meet them in the Parliament.
Union Minister L Murugan, senior Lok Sabha MP NK Prema Chandran, BJD Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Batra, TDP MP Ram Mohan Naidu, BSP MP Ritesh Pandey, BJP’s Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and BJP’s Nagaland S Phangnon Konyak were amongst the MPs.

He also stated that if the BJP was in power, they would have disconnected everyone’s water supply. However, he assured the citizens that he would not let this happen. He added that if anyone believes that their water bill is accurate, they should pay it, but if they have any doubts, they need not pay until it is cleared. The CM also said that the AAP party would not allow the BJP to indulge in any kind of violence.
