Bright and sunny spells will develop later in the day and temperatures are set to drop to below zero overnight, according to Met Éireann.
While Sunday will see outbreaks of rain and drizzle with the possibility of spot flooding in parts, the wet weather will move southwards to reveal some brighter spells in areas.
Highest temperatures for today will reach between 6 and 9 degrees, though it will become colder later when the temperature falls to between -1 and 3 degrees overnight. As the temperature drops, Met Éireann said there is the possibility of frost and ice developing in parts of the country.
The wet weather isn’t expected to continue into Monday and instead it will be a dry and bright day with some sunshine too. It will be cool with highest temperatures of between 7 and 9 degrees.
It will become cold early on Monday evening with some frost developing in the east of the country. It will be coldest during the first half of the night and temperatures will fall to between -1 and 4 degrees.
Tuesday is expected to start off wet for the entire country but the showers will clear later to leave sunny spells and some scattered showers. There will be highs of 8 to 11 degrees which will fall to between 0 and 4 degrees overnight.
It will be a crisp morning on Wednesday with sunshine in some areas. However, rain will extend countrywide during the afternoon and evening. It will be a humid day Met Éireann said with highs of between 9 and 11 degrees.
The wet conditions will continue overnight with spot flooding and gusty winds forecast. Overnight temperatures won’t fall as low as previous nights, instead ranging between 4 and 8 degrees.
Thursday will be a cooler day according to Met Éireann with a mix of sun and wintry conditions on the way.
"A cooler day as a change of airmass sets in. The last of any overnight rain will give way to sunny spells and blustery showers, some turning wintry. Highs of 5 to 8 degrees with an added wind chill factor owing to fresh and gusty westerly winds,” Met Éireann said.
