Former solicitor Michael Lynn was scouting distressed properties in Dublin and overseeing renovations of a new home as he waited to stand trial for stealing almost €18m from banks in a Celtic Tiger mortgage fraud.

Lynn, who was last week sentenced to five-and-a-half years in jail for theft, approached property ­developers who were in difficulty, offering to fund or acquire their distressed assets.
