Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) rejected the notion that House Republicans support Russia in its war with Ukraine, arguing her party is instead “pro-America.”
The South Carolina congresswoman’s assessment comes as some have accused House Republicans of withholding financial aid for Ukraine, which has been at war with Russia since late February 2022. Mace argued that Congress has already sent over $100 billion to Ukraine and claimed that the Democratic Party is accusing its opposing party members of failing to help Ukraine without addressing its own failures.
“But this is what the Left does; they don’t want to talk about policy and Biden’s failed mission in Ukraine; they want to say Republicans are pro-Putin and pro-Russia when nothing could be further from the truth. What we really are is pro-America, our citizens, and our national security.”
Mace also criticized President Joe Biden and Democratic lawmakers for “failing” to specify what the United States’s goal is in the war between Ukraine and Russia, arguing that simply giving money to Ukraine is not a permanent solution. She urged both the president and Congress to determine how the U.S. could resolve the war.
Mace also took issue with how the U.S. is currently putting the needs of other nations ahead of its own, calling for the U.S. to address the “invasion” along the Southern border. She said that this, and the U.S.’s own national security, ought to be addressed before further aid is given to Ukraine.
“That should be the No. 1 priority of Joe Biden and this administration, full stop,” Mace said.
