Brendan Rodgers is under pressure to apologise for comments made to a female reporter following Celtic's win over Motherwell.

Celtic sealed all three points in stoppage time in the second half, with Adam Idah and Luis Palma firing in the fourth and sixth minute of added time respectively to put them 3-1 up.

But despite the win on the road keeping them two points off fierce rivals and league leaders Rangers, it's fair to say Rodgers wasn't in the best of spirits after the final whistle.

Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland's Jane Lewis in a post-match interview, Rodgers is heard answering a female reporter's question.

"There's a story being written about this group, but we'll write our own story," he said.

When asked by the reporter if he could expand on his answer, Rodgers immediately shot her down.

"No," he repeated over and over, before saying: "You know exactly what I mean."

"I'm actually not sure exactly what you mean," the reporter replied. "Can you tell us? People might be interested to know. You're the one that's bringing it up so..."

Before the reporter ends her sentence, Rodgers is heard giving the microphone back and walking away.

But it's what he said after storming out of the interview that has landed the ex-Liverpool boss in hot water.

“Okay, are we done?" he says. "Well done, good girl, cheers.”

Rodgers has previously voiced concerns over what he perceives as a predetermined story being crafted about Celtic’s resolve and ambition in the title race.

Fans online were stunned by Rodgers' comment.

"Brendan Rodgers used this line in two different post-match interviews, but fell apart at the first hint of a follow-up - and patronised her for good measure," one said on X. "Classy."

A second said: "Yeah handling the pressure well, fake narratives and condescending to females."

The talkSPORT Breakfast team gave their take on Rodgers' comments after the interview was played out on air.

Host Jeff Stelling said: “Good girl! Goodness me, Brendan.”

Co-presenter, and Celtic fan, Shebahn Aherne added: “He’s under a bit of scrutiny now to apologise.

“It’s not a good thing to say. But what does he mean by the good girl comment at the end? It’s not a good look."

Stelling added: “In this day and age, it’s just the sort of thing you can’t say.”

Aherne replied: “She put Brendan under pressure, she wanted an answer, she pushed him, he didn’t like it and therefore he said ‘good girl’."

Campaigners at For Women Scotland called on Rodgers to apologise in a statement.
