NATURE ON THE MOVE: On Mondays December 18, January 15 and 29, and February 12 and 26 at 10:30 am, Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park will be holding its bi-weekly Nature on the Move walks. These walks are led by one of Wilton Wildlife’s Environmental Educators and will take place on the NYS DEC Camp Saratoga Trails. These walks give participants an opportunity to get out on the trails with like-minded people and observe the beauty of nature in the winter. They are geared towards gentle exercise and are appropriate for adults at basic fitness levels.
The group usually covers about 1.5 miles of trail. Nature on the Move happens every other week, year-round. If there is snow, the program will take place on snowshoes. Free snowshoe rentals will be available 15 minutes prior to the program provided by a grant from the Common Roots Foundation. If there is no snow, the program will be a trail walk. Registration is required at least one business day in advance. The federal Urban Renewal program provided funding to clear “blighted” areas to allow for redevelopment. This program displaced the largely Black community from the West Side. Joy King, whose family has resided in Saratoga Springs for seven generations, will share her and her family’s memories of this devastating time, the lasting impact that this program had on the people who lived there, and the buildings that were lost. In addition, there will be a screening of the documentary “Erasing Spaces and Faces: The Legacy of Urban Renewal in Saratoga Springs” from C.R.E.A.T.E. Community Studios. The program will take place on Zoom, for a suggested donation of $10 or more. For additional information or to register for the virtual program visit www.saratogapreservation.org or call (518) 587-5030.
