Panaji: In a major drugs raid at Arpora in Bardez taluka, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Goa police have arrested Nigerian national Innocent Okezuonu Anaemem (56) and seized drugs worth around `74.75 lakh.
Police said the accused was found in possession of 480 grams of cocaine worth `72 lakh, 15 grams of ecstasy powder worth `1.50 lakh and 250 gram of charas worth `1.25 lakh.
The raid was conducted on Saturday evening by an ANC team.
Officials of the ANC said that following information received by them, they kept a watch on the Nigerian national for about a week. Further, based on human intelligence and technical surveillance, a trap was laid and the accused drug dealer was nabbed at Arpora.
Police have also attached some cash and a two-wheeler reportedly used by the accused in the drug trade.
This is the second raid conducted by ANC this month and the fourth this year. In all the four raids together, the ANC seized 42 kg ganja, 6.5 kg charas, 480 gram cocaine, 115 gram ecstasy powder, all worth around `1.58 crore.
Police said the accused is involved in three cases in Goa and trial is pending before courts.
In 2013, the accused was arrested in connection with the national highway blockade case at O’Coqueiro junction in Porvorim. He was arrested in an overstaying case and was lodged at the detention centre in Mapusa. The third case was registered while he was lodged at the detention centre where he reportedly assaulted an employee.
The raid on Saturday was conducted by the ANC team led by police sub-inspector Pravin Shimepurushkar under the supervision of police inspector Sajith Pillai and was monitored by Deputy Superintendent of Police Nerlon Albuquerque and Superintendent of Police Bossuet Silva.
