Regarding the Feb. 23 news article “No cause cited in ‘scary’ morning AT&T outage”:

A few weeks ago, my family got an email from AT&T saying it is trying to get out of the landline business and will do so in California (where I live) once it gets approval. Now, after the AT&T cellphone outage, fire departments everywhere are saying use your landline in an emergency.

How does AT&T balance getting rid of landlines with advice to use landlines in an emergency?
