Señor Buscador and jockey Junior Alvarado flew late to win the $20 million Saudi Cup, the world’s richest thoroughbred race, on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The 6-year-old horse, whose biggest win before this was the $300,000 San Diego Handicap at Del Mar, staged his usual deep rally to edge Ushba Tesoro in the 1 1/8-mile Grade I race.

Pacesetter Saudi Crown finished third and Bob Baffert-trained National Treasure was fourth, while favorite White Abarrio never threatened the leaders.

Señor Buscador, trained by Todd Fincher, ran second in his previous start to National Treasure in the Pegasus World Cup in Florida, and went off at 13-1 odds Saturday.
