Primary election ballots go out to Moffat County residents
In preparation for the upcoming general election, many Moffat County residents recently received mail-out ballots for the presidential primaries.
Residents who have not received ballots in the mail are advised to contact Moffat County’s election department to confirm their current and correct mailing addresses. Anyone in need of a replacement ballot can call the county clerk’s office at 970-824-9120 or visit any voter services polling station.
The last day the county clerk’s office can mail a replacement ballot out is Monday.
The packet includes an official ballot for the presidential primary aligned with the voter’s chosen major political party. Unaffiliated voters will find two ballots in their packets, one each for the Republican and Democratic candidates. However, voters must mark and return only one ballot, as submitting two will disqualify both of them.
Unaffiliated voters will remain registered as unaffiliated regardless of which primary they vote in. Those wishing to change their party affiliation can do so at GoVoteColorado.gov.
Once voters have marked their ballot selections, they should refold the ballot, place it inside the provided secrecy sleeve, and seal it within the official return envelope. Signing and dating the self-affirmation on the return envelope is required.
The return envelope should only contain the voter’s designated ballot, and multiple ballots in the same envelope will invalidate all contained ballots.
There are multiple options for turning in a ballot. A 24-hour ballot dropbox has been set up in front of the Moffat County Courthouse at 1198 W. Victory Way. In addition to depositing it in the county-controlled dropbox, voters can hand-deliver their ballot to a Voter Service Polling Center or mail it back to the Moffat County Clerk and Recorder’s Office.
Completed ballots must be received by the county clerk’s office no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day, March 5. It should be noted that ballots that are only postmarked but not received by March 5 will not count.
Residents can track their ballots through Moffat.BallotTrax.net, GoVoteColorado.gov or by calling 970-824-9120.
For those who prefer to vote in person, early voting will start Monday.
The voter service polling center at 1198 W. Victory Way, Suite 105, will be open daily from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 26-March 1 (8 a.m. – 4 p.m.) with additional hours from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 2 and 7 a.m.-7 p.m. March 5.
