Letter: Axolotls are endangered
A few years ago, I got interested in axolotls. Axolotls are adorable amphibians. Axolotls have feathery gills and a smile across their face. Axolotls are very peaceful and they have hurt no one. You may have seen them in games, in aquariums or encountered plush versions at stores. But axolotls are critically endangered. In my opinion, I think we should save axolotls from becoming extinct.
Axolotls are now found in one area in the entire world. Axolotls are located in Mexico, Lake Xochimilco, in the Mexico Valley. I think saving axolotls’ habitat would be good since axolotls are critically endangered. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature says there are between 50-1,000 mature individuals in the wild, and the population is severely fragmented.
How are axolotls going extinct? The leading causes of axolotls going extinct are human development, waste of water disposal, waste of trash and loss of habitat. These reasons are why axolotls are critically endangered and going extinct. These poor axolotls are really close to becoming extinct. If loss of habitat and waste of water disposal continue, axolotls could go extinct.
How can we save axolotls? By donating to Lincoln Park Zoo or some local farms. We could also give axolotls more habitat and stop the waste of water disposal. These things could help save these axolotls and have more than 1,000. That way, we can save axolotls from becoming extinct.
Finally, we should save axolotls because of waste of water disposal and loss of habitat. People may not want to save axolotls because they think they are dangerous, but axolotls are not dangerous. Overall, I think we should save axolotls from going extinct.
