Ranji Trophy Live Score 2024 Quarterfinals Day 2 Updates: Musheer scores double century; TN takes lead vs Saurashtra

Tamil Nadu has slowly and steadily tightened its grip on the match with fine half-centuries from R. Sai Kishore and B. Indrajith, helping the hosts take the first-innings lead.

After lunch, Sai Kishore got to his half-century before his opposite number, Jaydev Unadkat, dismissed him caught behind. Since then, Indrajith and M. Boopathi Vaishna Kumar have come together for an unbroken 64-run stand that has taken TN past Saurashtra’s total.

Indrajith has yet again lived up to his reputation as TN’s man for the crisis. The 29-year-old is known for his exceptional skills against spin and used his feet well against the left-arm spinners on a pitch, helping them. 

He looked untroubled and was happy to nudge it around, taking 79 balls to his first boundary. Boopathi, too, has looked solid, playing some nice cut shots against the tweakers. Tamil Nadu will look to continue in the same fashion and ensure it ends the day with a 100-run lead without losing more than one or two more wickets.

Aditya Thakare is dismissed by a comical runout as Vidarbha folds for 460 on the back of Atharva Taide’s century and 90s from Yash Rathod and Karun Nair.

Kumar Kartikeya removes Karan Shinde for 38. 48-run stand with Shoaib Mohammed Khan is broken.

Fifty for Sai Kishore!! A crucial knock from the TN captain. Six fours and three sixes so far. TN trails by 54 runs.

Shayan: The ball seamed and the fast bowlers generated bounce on Day 2 of the quarterfinals as Avesh Khan and Anubhav Agarwal claimed two wickets apiece to restrict Andhra to 62 for 4 at lunch. Making the most of the conditions, the seasoned Avesh struck early removing DB Prashanth Kumar on the fourth ball of his opening over. He followed it up with the precious wicket of Ashwin Hebbar, who was caught by Harsh Gawali at first slip.

The onus was on the seasoned Hanuma Vihari to rebuild, but he did not look comfortable in the middle before being trapped leg before by Anubhav. Vihari reviewed the decision, but it was upheld - leading to a huge blow for the visiting team.

Shortly before lunch, Anubhav claimed his second victim in Revanth Reddy to add to Andhra’s woes. With captain Ricky Bhui batting on 13 and Karan Shinde on 4, Andhra has a mountain to climb, after bundling out MP for its overnight score of 234.

Dipak: It was a hard-fought session, but Tamil Nadu will be the happier side as it is just 66 runs away from the first-innings lead.

Runs were hard to come by, but skipper R. Sai Kishore, who came as a nightwatchman, has held fort at one end with a tight defence, batting well on 48. While compact, Sai Kishore has not held back either and used the long handle to good effect. He has hit three sixes, two off the spinners and one against Jaydev Unadkat. 

The TN skipper had his second reprieve of the innings on 40 when Kevin Jivrajani dropped a chance at second slip off Unadkat in the penultimate over of the session. He got his first life when Parth Bhut dropped him when he was batting on five on the first day.

However, Bhut (12-4-21-2) has been the visitors’ best bowler on day two. The left-arm spinner kept asking questions of the batters and eventually had N. Jagadeesan trapped leg-before. He then snuck one past Pradosh Ranjan Paul’s defence with the batter stuck on the backfoot. 

TN has scored briskly throughout the session but has had to earn its runs, motoring along at just 2.5 runs per over. The host will hope for one more good session, which could get it into the lead from where it can control the game.

Dipak: After a good first hour, Parth Bhut strikes removing the in-form N. jagadeesan, leg-before. The left-arm spinner in his three overs, kept troubling the batters and gets his reward.

This is the kind of pitch where you could lose wickets in clusters, something Sai himself said yesterday. Important for TN to avoid that and not let Saurashtra get into the game.

A brilliant straight drive from Karun Nair closes out the over. 50 up for the middle order batter. Ominous signs for Karnataka.

A punch through the offside helps Musheer bring up his 150. 13 fours in his innings so far. 161 partnership runs now with Hardik Tamore and Mumbai look set to post a formidable first innings score against Baroda.

Fifty partnership runs between Jagadeesan and Sai Kishore as TN trails by 124 runs. TN will hope the duo can carry on in the same fashion.

With 9256 First Class runs, Hanuma Vihari is the new man in, and Andhra needs a big innings from him. After restricting Madhya Pradesh for 234, Andhra is in a spot of bother.

Musheer Khan with an unbeaten 139, has held one end together, and Hardik Tamore is approaching his century. The duo, with an unbeaten 136-run partnership, have Mumbai in a position of strength against Baroda.

Andhra polishes off things within the first six minutes of play to bowl out Madhya Pradesh for 234. KV Sasikanth picks up four wickets, and K Nitish Reddy takes three. Yash Dubey with a 133-ball 64 and Himanshu Mantri with a 97-ball 49 were the top scorers for Madhya Pradesh.
