Why is Cambridge United vs Peterborough United kicking off at midday? Huge League One derby given unusual start time

Cambridge United will take on Peterborough United in a League One derby this weekend with kick-off set for an unusual time.

Why is Cambridge vs Peterborough kicking off at midday?

The Cambridgeshire Derby will kick off at 12pm due to a police request.

A midday kick-off has been decided on after consultation with the local authorities.

This happened to the reverse fixture that took place at London Road in November and also happened for the meeting at the Abbey Stadium last season.

In a statement released for the November game earlier this season, Cambridge cited ‘a request from Cambridgeshire Police’ as the reason.

Due to the nature of the rivalry, there will have been some worries of fan troubles should the game take place later on in the day.

But there is still likely to be a big police presence at the game in case of issues.
