The South Asian Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE) 2024, hosted by Informa Markets in India (IMI), launched its 31st edition at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, Delhi NCR, focusing on ‘Inclusive and Sustainable Tourism.’ This three-day affair from February 22nd to 24th marks a significant chapter in the global tourism narrative, drawing stakeholders from across the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors, including National and State Tourism Boards (NTOs and STOs).

A highlight of the event was the SATTE Awards on its second day, celebrating the innovations and contributions of entities ranging from industry giants to emerging startups. The awards also featured ‘Shakti – Honouring Women Achievers,’ spotlighting the crucial role of women in the industry. SATTE 2024 serves as a catalyst for the sector’s growth, emphasizing the need to acknowledge and promote pioneering efforts that align with the ‘Incredible India’ vision.

Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director of Informa Markets – India, shared insights on India’s burgeoning tourism potential, fueled by robust GDP growth, increasing per capita income, and a rising influx of inbound tourists. He underscored the government’s infrastructural initiatives, like expanding the Vande Bharat train fleet and improving roads, aimed at enhancing travel experiences and boosting tourism.

Projected to create substantial revenue and employment by 2028, the Indian tourism industry stands at the cusp of exponential growth, driven by both international and domestic tourists. The adoption of sustainable tourism policies globally, as evidenced by over 100 countries and certified by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), further underscores the sector’s evolution towards sustainability.

On a related note, Alhasan Ali Aldabbagh, President – Asia Pacific of the Saudi Tourism Authority, during Saudi Arabia’s Founding Day, emphasized SATTE’s role in strengthening Indo-Saudi tourism relations. With a vision for 2030, Saudi Arabia aims to attract millions of Indian travelers by simplifying travel processes, thereby making it a top source market for the kingdom.
