Update 2:12 p.m.: The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office issued a pre-evacuation notice for the Perry Park Road area south of Tomah Road due to a 60-acre grass fire.
Residents should be ready to leave the area at any time, according to the agency. If someone is concerned about safety or believes they are in danger, they should leave immediately.
Residents can prepare for evacuation by arranging transportation, relocating livestock or large animals out of the area and packing essentials such as medications, special dietary foods and infant-care items.
Residents should only call 911 in case of an emergency, according to the sheriff’s office.
A grass fire sparked Friday in the 5500 block of South Perry Park Road in Douglas County has grown to 60 acres, according to the sheriff’s office.
The fire is burning west of the 5500 block of South Perry Park Road, said spokesperson Deborah Takahara. The fire is approximately 12 miles south of Sedalia.
Fire crews from Castle Rock and Larkspur are on scene in addition to emergency management staff from the sheriff’s office, Takahara said.
Colorado’s Front Range and eastern plains are forecast to see worsening fire weather conditions through the weekend and into the next week, according to the National Weather Service. Gusts of up to 22 mph are forecast in Castle Rock today.
