Man (40s) killed, woman seriously injured in Offaly crash as week’s death toll on roads climbs to five
A man in his 40s has been killed in a two-vehicle collision this morning in Co Offaly, which left a second driver hospitalised.
Gardaí are investigating the fatal crash which involved a car and an SUV, that occurred on the R401 at Coolygagen, Co Offaly at approximately 8:50am.
The male passenger in the car, aged in his 40’s, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore for treatment for serious injuries. He later died from his injuries.
The female driver of the SUV, aged in her 40’s, was taken to the same hospital for treatment for serious injuries, believed to be non-life-threatening at the time.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
A Garda Spokesperson said: “Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R401 in the Coolygagen area, between 8am and 9am on Wednesday 14th February 2024, are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Kildare Garda Station on 045 527 730, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”

January last year was one of the deadliest months for accidents on record. It set the tone for the worst year for fatalities in over a decade, with 188 people killed on roads over the course of the year.
