A memorial continues to grow in front of Fatso's in Gary. The owner, Crystal Kennebrew, was killed in a shooting in Indianapolis Monday.
GARY — A memorial was set up Monday outside Fatso's Pub to celebrate the life of owner Crystal Kennebrew, also known as Cristal Harris, who was killed Monday morning in Indianapolis.
Loved ones and community members placed balloons and stuffed animals outside the pub's location, 5060 Broadway, next to a large photo of Kennebrew. People wrote messages of love and support on a poster taped to the bar's building.
The Indianapolis Metro Police Department said police were dispatched to a Waffle House in Indianapolis, 2621 Lynhurst St., for a report of a person shot.
One of those people, identified by the Marion County coroner's office as Kennebrew, was in critical condition. She died en route to a hospital, IMPD said in an email. The coroner's office ruled her death a homicide.

Detectives said they believe the shooting started after two groups argued and it escalated to gunfire, police said. It is not clear if the people injured were also individuals who fired shots. Police are also looking at surveillance footage from the Waffle House.

Gary Mayor Eddie Melton offered his condolences to Kennebrew's loved ones in a Facebook post Tuesday.
"I am deeply sorry to hear about the tragic loss of Cristal Harris, who was dear to so many people in the Gary area," Melton wrote. "My heartfelt condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time."
