Qantas expresses its support for the reforms introduced by the Federal Government today regarding the slot management system at Sydney Airport.
Enhancements to the efficiency of the slot system in Sydney will directly benefit travelers and positively influence airports nationwide, alleviating the impact of inefficiencies experienced in Sydney. Additionally, it will enhance transportation connections with regional New South Wales, facilitating quicker travel for customers during severe weather conditions.
Increased transparency within the slot system represents a constructive stride forward, aiding in clarifying recent public discussions on its functionality and dispelling any misconceptions regarding Qantas’s slot allocation practices. Contrary to claims of slot hoarding, Qantas consistently operates well over 90 percent of its allotted slots, surpassing the global standard of 80 percent utilization observed in major airports worldwide.
These reforms complement the ongoing efforts of Qantas and Jetstar to significantly diminish delays and cancellations. Government data to be disclosed today is expected to demonstrate a return to reliability levels nearing long-term averages.
Qantas has iterated its backing for the reforms outlined in the Harris Review, as affirmed in its recent submission to the Government’s Green Paper Aviation Review.
