Asics is on a serious hot streak. Last November, we dubbed the Japanese sportswear stalwart's iconic Gel-Kayano 14 runner the Sneaker of the Year, and just a couple months later we predicted its GT-2160 model would be everywhere in 2024. That's to say nothing of the truly elite collaborations the brand has spun up over the past few years, with the likes of Kiko Kostadinov, Brain Dead, and more. Now, Asics's Sportstyle division has linked with Italy's C.P. Company to deliver one of the more intriguing sneaker collabs we’ve seen recently: a sleek reinterpretation of the Gel-Quantum 360 VIII that makes use of a bevy of cutting-edge manufacturing techniques. It’s exactly the kind of boundary-pushing innovation we’d expect to see from both Asics and C.P. Company, and it makes perfect sense for their first-ever joint effort.
Drawing inspiration from “natural forms and interlocking structures,” the C.P. Company x Asics Gel-Quantum 360 VIII perfectly capture the former's advanced technical aesthetic through the use of tone-on-tone branding and several high-performance fabrics. The resulting kicks feel very much in keeping with the sort of retrofuturistic vibes Asics has employed lately on the Gel-Quantum series and other runners.
C.P. Company redesigned the midsole with its proprietary “Division Space” tech, which trims down the shoe's weight and boosts its cushioning. The texture-happy design includes a handful of 5D-printed details, as well as something called “FF Blast Plus Eco” foam, which is purportedly as good for the environment—it “includes at least 20% biomass derived from sugarcane,” per the press release—as it is comfortable for your feet.
First shown off at Paris Fashion Week, the sneaker finally drops today at 11 a.m. EST, available at both C.P. Company and Asics stores.
