Industries in Dhaka, Gazipur, and Narayanganj are facing a severe gas crisis, despite assurances from Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company of improvement.

This is as per media reports, which, citing industry insiders underlined textile and garment factories in these areas have endured months of gas shortages, leading to a dire situation.

The scarcity of gas during crucial operational hours has reportedly led to disruptions in production, with many factories on the brink of closure even as machines vital for processes like dyeing remain inactive, posing significant financial risks to the industries.

Similarly affected are areas like Mirpur, Tongi, and Narayanganj, where the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) reports a halving of production in garment factories due to gas unavailability.

This has resulted in pressure from buyers for alternative shipping methods and discounts, further straining the industry.

The Bangladesh Chamber of Industries has raised concerns over the inability of industries to operate at full capacity due to the gas crisis, attributing it to price hikes without a corresponding improvement in supply.

They demand a sustainable solution, emphasising the need for long-term planning to facilitate industrial growth.
