Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.5%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Wednesday.

Shares of MRF Ltd.(up 0.72 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(up 0.33 per cent), Eicher Motors Ltd.(up 0.22 per cent), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.(up 0.17 per cent) and Bharat Forge Ltd.(up 0.07 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd.(down 4.31 per cent), Bosch Ltd.(down 3.76 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(down 2.76 per cent), Tube Investments of India Ltd.(down 1.62 per cent) and Balkrishna Industries Ltd.(down 1.61 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 0.5 per cent down at 20252.55.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 141.91 points at 22055.05, while the BSE Sensex stood down 434.31 points at 72623.09.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 16 ended in the green, while 34 closed in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, Vodafone Idea, NHPC, Zee Ent. and HFCL were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Renaissance Global, Dynacons Sys, Zuari Global, Bigbloc Const and AVG Logistics hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Credo Brands Marketi, Compuage Infocom, Ebixcash World Money, Whirlpool India and Cosmo Films hit their fresh 52-week lows.
