Wicklow Green Party TD Steven Matthews has called for a new body to be formed to investigate, assess and report on rights of way, after two men from a Wicklow walking group launched a GoFundMe appeal to help them pay almost €40,000 in costs having lost a protracted legal battle with a local landowner.

Niall Lenoach and Noel Barry, from Enniskerry, were in a dispute with a local landowner who restricted access to what they claimed was an ancient route. Mr Lenoach, a school teacher, historian and father-of-three, is chairman of the Enniskerry Walking Association, and Mr Barry, a great-grandfather, is its secretary.
