The search for a 20-year-old Virginia Tech student who went missing last week continued Tuesday, but authorities say they don't believe he is in immediate danger.
Jonathan "Johnny" Roop was last seen Friday at his apartment complex in the Merrimac area of Montgomery County.

Roop's phone pinged in Christiansburg around 4:30 p.m., and his parents were expecting him at home in Abingdon before 5 p.m., but he never showed up.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday afternoon that its investigators "are continuing to pursue every lead," according to a press release.
"However, the preliminary investigation leads us to believe that he left the area of Montgomery County on his own Friday afternoon," the release continued.

Police believe Roop traveled toward southwest Virginia, or Tennessee. Video surveillance footage from local businesses and financial institutions captured Roop in the Christiansburg area, with the last at around 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Interviews with Roop's friends and family led investigators to believe that his actions Friday were "not consistent with his normal patterns of behavior," the news release continued. But police do believe he was alone.
"We have received no information leading us to believe that he is in immediate danger," the release read. "However, due to the fact that Mr. Roop appears to be acting outside of his normal behavior, we would like to make contact with him to confirm that he is indeed OK."
On Friday, Roop was driving a black 2018 Toyota Camry with Virginia license plate number TXW6643. The car has a Virginia Tech flag sticker on the back window.

Roop is 6 feet, 3 inches tall with blonde hair and hazel eyes. He weights between 230 and 240 pounds.
