CAPITAL REGION — In this edition of the Section 2 high school sports roundup, we take a look at the action around boys’ and girls’ high school hoops.

BOYS BASKETBALL

In Class B action, Hoosick Falls thrashed Granville, jumping out to a 47-14 halftime lead and ultimately winning 74-36. Carson Glover paced the Panthers with 14 points and Andrew Sparks contributed 11. Up next, Hoosick Falls plays Schuylerville at Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) this Saturday at 1 p.m.

Also in Class B, Mechanicville crushed Johnstown, 92-48. Leading the Red Raiders were Austin Rozowicz with 21 points, and Colin Richardson posted 17. PJ Yetto led Johnstown with 12 points. Mechanicville faces Hudson on Saturday at HVCC at 2:30 p.m.

Additionally in Class B, Stillwater whomped Greenville, 93-47. Carter Wichelns posted 21 of his season-high 23 points in the first half for the Warriors. Also starring for the Warriors was Jaxon Mueller with 23 points and 15 rebounds, Kaelan Leak notched 19 points, Lukas Lilac chipped in 10 points and seven boards, and Thomas Mcdonough contributed 12 assists. Stillwater advances to play Voorheesville on Saturday at HVCC at 4 p.m.

A big 13-4 upset in Class B came as Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons edged Watervliet, 53-48. Esiasyn Starr led the Golden Knights with 26, including a clutch bucket in the final 30 seconds of play. Daheem Wilson paced the Cannoneers with 27 points in defeat.

In Class C play, Spa Catholic moved on to the quarterfinals with a 78-50 victory against Middleburgh. Leading the Saints to victory was Tyler Hicks with 27 points, Ryan Gillis posted 12, and Hunter Fales added 11. Up next, Spa Catholic takes on Berne-Knox Westerlo on Friday, at Siena College, at 5 p.m.

Also in Class C, top-seed Maple Hill was pushed to the limit by Cambridge but eventually pulled away with a 60-49 win. Leading the Wildcats were Brady Cole and Nick Novak with 13 points, and Jake Fish contributed 10. The Wildcats face Whitehall on Friday at HVCC, at 6:30 p.m.

Additionally, in Class C, Hoosic Valley cruised by Fort Plain, 69-28. Guiding Hoosic Valley to victory was Chris Jones with 18 points, Isaas Wiley posted 14 and Landon Reilly added 13. Hoosic Valley plays Warrensburg on Friday, at HVCC, at 5 p.m.

Plus, in more Class C play, Duanesburg dusted Hadley-Luzerne 90-43. Jeff Mulhern paced the Eagles with 26 points and Ethan Thompson notched 22. For Hadley-Luzerne, Mason Conklin scored 13 and Eugene Conroy added 11.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

In Class AAA sectional play, Colonie bounced Saratoga Springs, 70-46. Gabrielle Martin led the Raiders with 16 points and 11 rebounds, Olivia Hoffman and Kendall Abraham both posted 11 points and Aliyah Pearson contributed eight points, eight assists, and six steals. For the Blue Streaks, Carly Wise topped all scorers with 19 points. Colonie advances to the semi-finals to play Shenendehowa, at HVCC on Feb. 29, at 7:30 p.m.

Also in AAA action, Shaker stomped Schenectady, 71-29, moving on to the semi-finals to play Albany, on Feb. 29, at HVCC, at 6 p.m. The Blue Bison were guided by Sofia Lanni’s 12 points, and Peyton Hoblock and Jayla Geter both added 11.

In Class D quarterfinal action, the Saratoga Catholic Lady Saints came out on top of Salem 62-40. With the Saints only leading by six at the half, they outscored Salem 36-20 in the second half. Sophia Ryan finished with 20 points, Addison Whitbeck posted 12, and Grace Schaefer chipped in 10 for the Saints. Meredith Barrett had a high of 20 points for Salem. The Lady Saints advance to play top-seed Northville, on Feb. 27, at Averill Park High School, at 7:30 p.m.
