Material management and logistics provider ASCO has secured a five-year contract with bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) to provide base and pipe yard management services.
Under the contract, which came into effect at the start of 2024, ASCO will provide services to bpTT across all its 16 offshore locations in Trinidad. The financial details were not disclosed.
ASCO said in a news release Tuesday that the contract cements its presence in the region, with its in-country headcount set to grow by 30 percent. The company added that it is making a “significant investment” in equipment and infrastructure to deliver the work.
“Securing this contract, from the largest operator in the region is a huge achievement for the team and will be a strong foundation to further expand ASCO’s presence in the Caribbean region”, ASCO Managing Director of Trinidad & Tobago Deborah Benjamin said.
"Following this award, we have made [a] substantive, seven-figure (USD) investment to position us to deliver exceptional service standards to BP. Not only do we comply with all international standards, but we are also committed participants to the Trinidad and Tobago Safe to Work (STOW) accreditation standard. Safety Excellence is a fundamental obsession for ASCO globally and our Trinidad operations fully embrace this”, Benjamin added.
bpTT has operated in Trinidad and Tobago since 1961, and is the country’s largest hydrocarbon producer, accounting for more than half of the nation’s gas production, according to the release. ASCO entered the Trinidad and Tobago market in 2000, in support of BP. The company said it has grown to be the “preeminent logistics provider” to the country’s offshore oil and gas industry.
"Trinidad and Tobago has been a key part of our global business for over 20 years and we are delighted to have secured a long-term, sustainable future for our employees, contractors and supply chain partners”, ASCO Group CEO Mike Pettigrew said. “We also have a long legacy of supporting BP across the world and look forward to delivering the highest standards of service in Trinidad for the foreseeable future”.
bpTT’s major projects in the country are Ocelot and Cypre, according to the company’s website. The Ocelot Project consists of an onshore liquid pipeline that connects the company’s Beachfield facility to the Galeota Terminal Facility. The pipeline is approximately 8 miles (13 kilometers) long and is routed along an existing pipeline corridor that is currently in use by the company’s 06BECH pipeline.
Cypre will become bpTT’s third subsea development. It will include seven wells and subsea trees tied back into the company’s existing Juniper platform via flexible flowlines. The Cypre gas field is located 48.5 miles (78 kilometers) off the southeast coast of Trinidad within the East Mayaro Block, at a water depth of approximately 262.5 feet (80 meters).

Meanwhile, ASCO recently signed an agreement to support Petrofac’s emergency response provision in the North East of England, providing specialist HR emergency management.
As part of the agreement, ASCO will be available 24/7 to supplement Petrofac's existing emergency support teams in the event of an unexpected emergency situation, including medical or compassionate requirements for Petrofac’s clients’ crew members requiring immediate evacuation, according to an earlier news release.
"We are incredibly proud to be working in partnership with Petrofac ensuring the well-being of their clients’ crew members during emergency situations”, ASCO Business Development and Operations Manager Ryan McMahon said. “Our priority is to ensure everyone receives the care they require to get home or return to the vessel or platform safely and efficiently, whilst keeping all stakeholders constantly informed”.
“We are delighted to expand our relationship with ASCO and strengthen our existing emergency response and crisis management service provision to our clients’ crew members in the North-East of England”, Neil Fraser, Regional Manager Emergency Response and Crisis Management (Europe) at Petrofac, said. “This contract marks the latest in a series of joint ventures with ASCO, enabling us to provide targeted and specialized HR emergency management support across the UK and internationally”.
