Goa Forward Party (GFP) president and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday visited the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) in Margao and took stock of the functioning of
the facility.

Last year in September, after finding intensive care unit (ICU) and trauma unit of the hospital in a non-operational state, besides several other issues, Sardesai had written to the Chief Secretary about it.

Seeing no change in improvement of facilities, later in December, he approached the High Court which, after several hearings, directed the state to make the hospital fully functional.

The state, in its submission, told to the court that the recruitment of doctors and staff is underway and the ICU and trauma unit would be made functional by May 30. Sardessai said if the hospital was not upgraded by May 30, he would again knock on the doors of court with a case of contempt.

Sardesai said, “My demand is that the local land losers must also be given some benefits. There are issues as regards the MRI, CT scan and the blood bank. Besides, there is no proper pavement, walkway; we will hold a meeting with the PWD to discuss about grade separator, a dedicated entry and exit point, a rickshaw or motorcycle pilot stand.”
