The last instalment of money is on the table, the dates have been set. The Government has hung its hat on the National Children’s Hospital being completed by October and that it “could” be open to children from April or May next year at a full and final cost of €2.24bn to the taxpayer.

Industry sources say the relationship between the developer of the project, the state-appointed National Paediatric Hospital Development Board, and builder of the new children’s hospital, BAM, is finally “in a better place” after years of acrimony over delays and soaring costs.
