STUMPS ON DAY 3 — End of an excellent day for the Indian team! Not only do they produce a tremendous fightback with the ball to collect eight English wickets for just 112, bowling them out for 319 and collecting a first innings lead of 126, they also collect nearly 200 runs thereafter for the loss of just two wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal dishes out a second century in as many Tests before retiring hurt due to back issues while Shubman Gill too is looking solid on 65 at the moment, collecting a single off Rehan in the final over of the day.

Both Jaiswal and Gill had been dismissed cheaply in the first innings before Rohit and Jadeja produced an admirable fight back. This time it’s the youngsters who assume charge and put the Indians in the driving seat with two days left in the Test.

Yashasvi Jaiswal retires hurt at the end of the 44th over! The opener decides to walk off the ground after collecting 104 off 133 balls with the back spasm becoming too much of an issue for him to be able to focus properly at the moment. Bit of a delay before the start of the 43rd over with Yashasvi Jaiswal suddenly holding his back and appearing to be in some pain. The physio walks out to have a quick look and offer him a tablet or a spray. SIX! Gill brings up his half-century in style by confidently pulling a short delivery from Wood, clearing the square leg fence as a result. The six also takes India's lead past 300! Follows it up with a firm cut through point for a four two deliveries later that brings up 150 of the partnership for the second wicket.

Yashasvi Jaiswal brings up his century in style — punching a short-of-length delivery from the pacer through extra cover, taking 122 deliveries to reach the three-figure mark for the second time in this series! What a knock this has been so far, taking just 42 deliveries to collect the next 50 runs after bringing up his half-century in 80 deliveries. Nine off Wood’s sixth over with a single coming in each delivery before the boundary off the last ball.

SIX! FOUR! FOUR! Jaiswal’s bossing one of the greatest bowlers to ever play the game at the moment! Goes for a wild heave towards the leg side off a short-of-length ball from Anderson, clearing the square leg fence in the process, and gets a thick outside edge the very next ball that sends the ball flying towards the third man fence. Jaiswal ends the over with another pull off a short-of-length delivery in the same direction as the six, with the ball landing inside the boundary rope for a four on this occasion. The current partnership also goes past fifty in the meantime! 19 off Anderson’s sixth over!

TEA ON DAY 3 — India end the second session with 44 runs on the board for the loss of just Rohit Sharma’s wicket, stretching their lead to 170. Hartley’s brought back in place of Wood, who gets just the one over before the end of the session. Jaiswal then produces an inside out drive off Root at the start of the final over of the session to collect his first boundary of the innings, and collects a single off the last ball to keep the strike.

The highlight of the session, however, has to be the manner in which Siraj and Jadeja ran through the remainder of the English batting lineup, the former striking thrice to finish with figures of 4/84 as the visitors ended up losing five wickets for just 29 runs.

Except umpire Joel Wilson didn't initially raise his finger thinking the ball might have pitched outside leg, forcing Stokes to go for the review and overturn it. BOWLED! Another searing yorker from Mohammed Siraj crashed into the off stump, resulting in James Anderson getting castled for 1. With that, England have been bowled out for 319, losing five wickets for just 29 runs after lunch in what certainly is one of their worst batting collapses in the ‘Bazball’ era.

Siraj finishes the pick of the bowlers with 4/84 as the home team collect a sizeable 126-run first innings lead, which could be crucial not just for the Rajkot Test but the series as a whole.

BOWLED! Siraj ends Rehan’s resistance with a pin-point yorker as England lose their eighth wicket shortly after crossing 300! Rehan tried bringing his bat down in time, but was beaten for pace as the ball crashed onto the base of the off stump. Rehan had just collected his first boundary of the innings with a superb punch through extra cover just two deliveries before getting castled.

England suddenly are staring at the prospect of conceding a first innings deficit of more than a hundred runs with Stokes and Foakes departing in quick succession. England suddenly have two new faces at the centre with the batting now going into the tail. The English tail sure can wag, but the prospect of going past 400 suddenly looks a lot more difficult now. Tom Hartley, who joins Rehan Ahmed after Foakes’ dismissal, collects a single off the final delivery of Siraj’s 19th over to bring up the 300 for the visitors.

Two wickets in two balls for the Indians, and it's the other 'Ben' who gets the marching orders this time as Foakes ends up chipping the ball straight to Rohit Sharma at mid on to give Siraj his second wicket of the innings! OUT! Massive wicket for the Indians as Ravindra Jadeja gets rid of Ben Stokes shortly after lunch! Stokes goes for the slog-sweep after getting a flat delivery outside off from the left-arm spinner that holds its line. Ends up hitting off the toe end resulting in a thick top-edge, and later a simple catch for Jasprit Bumrah near the cow corner region. Stokes falls short of a half-century.

LUNCH ON DAY 3 — Ravindra Jadeja introduced for the first time today and bowls the final over of the morning session, dishing out the six deliveries in the blink of an eye in which he concedes a single to Stokes in the first delivery and follows it up with five consecutive dots.

England collect 83 runs from 26 overs at a run rate of 3.19 that is quite slow by ‘Bazball’ standards. India, meanwhile, will feel buoyed by the three wickets that they were able to collect in this session, including and especially Ben Duckett’s with the well-set opener departing shortly after going past 150.

England skipper Ben Stokes is fairly set at the moment, and will be crucial to his team’s hopes of eclipsing the Indian total of 445 and taking a sizeable first innings lead from here.

FOUR! Streaky boundary for Duckett off Bumrah’s bowling! He was deceived by an off-cutter from the pacer and got a leading edge that would’ve been a sitter for the fielder at backward point. Instead, it lands well beyond gully’s reach and runs away for a boundary. Another boundary later in the over, this time to Stokes who nicks the ball through the gap between slip and gully after playing with soft hands. Rohit then puts down a tough chance at slip after a reverse sweep by Duckett off Kuldeep in the following over, nearly resulting in a repeat of the Root dismissal except this was a little too high for the Indian skipper to grab. Duckett collects a single in the very next delivery to complete 150 runs for only the second time in his Test career. Four leg byes added to the English total in the penultimate delivery.

And now it’s Kuldeep Yadav’s turn to get his name on the wickets column as Jonny Bairstow perishes for a four-ball duck after getting beaten by the extra turn on offer and getting hit on the pad bang in front of off and middle. Umpire Dharmasena raises his finger after a brief pause. Bairstow waits until the last second before signalling for the review, and HawkEye shows the ball to be crashing into the middle stump. India are back in the game and how!
