Mark Zuckerberg says Meta Quest 3 is better than Apple Vision Pro

The CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, has posted a video on Instagram where he has shared his views on the Apple Vision Pro after trying out the mixed-reality (MR) headset and how it compares with the one MR headset from his company, the Meta Quest 3. While Mark said a lot of things about the two headsets in the video, his following statement summarizes his opinions about the two products: “I don’t just think that Quest is the better value, I think Quest is the better product, period.” But there’s more to the story than that.

Areas where Mark finds Quest 3 to perform better than Vision Pro

Mark says that as the Quest 3 weighs less than the Vision Pro and has no wires like the one from Apple, it feels more comfortable to wear and allows you to move around more freely. He also says that the Quest 3 has a wider field of view and a brighter screen than the Vision Pro. He admits that the one from Apple has sharper displays compared to the Quest 3.

But Mark points out that the tradeoffs Apple had to make to offer that isn’t worth it. One of the them is that the Vision Pro renders that portion of the screen at a lower resolution at which you aren’t looking to save processing/graphics power. Lastly, he adds that there is “deeper” content available for the Quest 3 compared to that for the Vision Pro.

Meta CEO says that Quest 3 is better than Vision Pro for most things

Considering those things, Mark says that the “Quest is better for the vast majority of things that people use mixed-reality for.” At this point, it is worth mentioning that the Quest 3 costs almost six times less than the Vision Pro (USD 599 vs USD 3,499). Furthermore, he praises the Vision Pro’s eye-tracking feature and says that Meta offered it with the Quest Pro, removed it with the Quest 3, and plans to offer the feature with future headsets. It's also worth mentioning that the video was recorded using the Meta Quest 3.

Jonny Ive had long been the face of Apple's industrial design. We'd see him explain the design choices made for Apple products in his impeccable British accent at launch events. Ive's vision aligned with that of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and the two famously got on very well. So it was a big deal for […]

In September 2023, the European Commission opened an investigation to determine if Apple’s iMessage qualifies as a Core Platform Service. Today, the agency has concluded that the messaging platform doesn’t qualify as one. It means that Apple will not have to open iMessage to other messaging platforms, such as Messenger and WhatsApp. This is a huge […]

iPhone 16 Pro could offer higher storage than Galaxy flagships

Samsung ditched the microSD slot on flagship Galaxy smartphones back in 2021. Without the option for microSD expansion, Samsung's flagship phones are on par with Apple's iPhones when it comes to storage choices, something the Korean giant's diehard fans still haven't forgiven it for. Back in 2021, Apple even offered more storage options than the latest Galaxy […]
