The sequel to last year’s inaugural Snow Ball took place over the first weekend of February with a series of events benefiting the Children’s Oncology Support Fund (COSF). Founded by film producer and philanthropist Thomas Pierce, The Snow Ball brings together a community in support of erasing pediatric cancer and honoring those who have been touched by the disease, serving as beacons of strength and hope.
Over several days, events included a luncheon at Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro, an official welcome party sponsored by Lugano Diamonds at ASPENX Mountain Club, and an Après-Ski Soirée at The Snow Lodge Aspen followed by a benefactor dinner sponsored by Balmain, culminating in a gala at The St. Regis Aspen on Feb. 3. Hosted by media personality and cancer survivor Giuliana Rancic, the sold-out event honored Rachel Zoe with the Philanthropic Impact Award and Tom Lewis with the Community Leadership Award. Hearing from Sam Wilkerson, an 18-year-old cancer survivor from Denver, was among the more moving speeches of the evening. She is in remission after being treated for non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and was brought to the ball by Children’s Hospital Colorado, eliciting applause and support from all in the ballroom.
Presented by Balmain, the gala was themed “Through the Looking Glass,” with the entire lower level of the hotel decorated in floral walls and Alice in Wonderland-styled décor. A series of energetic performances by Tove Lo, Mojave Grey, and Nile Rodgers & Chic rolled on a flow, followed by an after-party at Snow Lodge.
More than $2.7 million was raised and will be directed towards the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s Hospital Colorado. A newly-endowed COSF Advancement in Wellness Fund for the CCBD’s Wellness Program will continue to be supported by Aspen Snow Ball fundraising efforts for the foreseeable future.
