NC State releases information about gun found in school library

Police at North Carolina State University police are investigating a report of a person with a gun at the campus library.

On Tuesday, N.C. State police responded to a call at the north entrance of the D.H. Hill Library at 2 Broughton Drive.

Staff reported that an older man in a cream-colored jacket set off the metal detector while entering the library.

When stopped by police, the man stated that he had a gun in his backpack and then left the building through the north door.

The news came a day after a 19-year-old student was arrested for allegedly bringing a loaded AR-15-style rifle on campus.

The university issued a written statement about both incidents:

"The incidents we’ve responded to in recent days did not pose a threat to the community, with both individuals being cooperative, and the firearms were never used or displayed against anyone."

According to N.C. State, firearms are generally prohibited on all university property, including firearms possessed openly or concealed and any gun, rifle, pistol or other firearm.

Violations can result in criminal charges.

Anyone with information was asked to call N.C. State University Police at 919-515-3000.
