Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center will celebrate the Great Backyard Bird Count with music, snacks and birdhouse building at a public open house from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18.
“Our original Holiday Open House was snowed out earlier in the year,” said Jason St. Sauver, senior education manager for Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center. “So, we are combining our Great Backyard Bird Count weekend with an open house for kids and families.”
St. Sauver urges everyone to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count anytime today through Feb. 19.
Local bluegrass group The McGovern String Band will entertain from 1-2 p.m. while visitors of all ages enjoy homemade treats and cider. Starting at 2 p.m. in the center’s education room, kids and families can build a birdhouse and make a suet bird feeder from old coffee mugs. The trails will also be open for a winter walkabout through the tallgrass prairie.
