Dozens of shots were fired in Old Louisville Thursday afternoon.
The gunfire erupted at 2nd and Hill streets near several schools. A car at the intersection was riddled with bullet holes.
At least 28 shots appeared to be fired into the front windshield.
Despite the barrage, the driver escaped with only minor injuries.
"That's excessive. That's a lot," Graham Bain said as the car was blasted by bullets just down the block from his home.
Bain told WLKY News he had just moved to Old Louisville last week and didn't expect to encounter such a violent scene.
"I used to be over near the Taylor Boulevard area, and this was kind of a constant thing, I figured it would be a little while before we ran into something like this. But it's, it's kind of, you know, the violence is kind of ramped up everywhere, unfortunately," Bain said.
Louisville Metro Police Department said the victim was transported to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting occurred near three JCPS schools.
Security was increased at the Youth Performing Arts School, Manual High School and Noe Middle School.
"I didn't realize how close it was until I got here just now. Like, wow," said Bruce Ucan while picking up his sixth-grade daughter from Noe Middle.
Police tape, evidence cones and blue lights could be seen less than a block away.
"Wow, this is scary. Like, it just never ends. When is it going to end? You know, it's just not going to end. You know, I don't know what needs to happen to change," Ucan said.
"It was just level three. So we, like, couldn't go outside or anything. But yeah, it wasn't that bad. It was just some kids were scared," said Liliana Ucan.
LMPD has not released a motive for the shooting, but Bain said it's pretty obvious what sparked the gunfire.
"They were going after somebody, obviously," Bain said.
