Rothschild to foray into India's debt advisory market on rising investor interest

Rothschild, which has advised $2.3 trillion worth of debt investments across 3,000 deals globally since 2010, is the latest entrant into the Indian credit market that has drawn investors ranging from sovereign wealth funds and large credit funds. Leverage finance, special situations, and corporate restructuring could lead the business as Rothschild plans entry into the space. "While we're thinking of coming in, we see now as an opportune moment for us," said Naveen Bhojwani, managing director, debt advisory & restructuring, Rothschild. "I think it's a very interesting moment in the evolution of the credit cycle. The pace of change and sophisticated structured financing is going to increase."

There is an influx of capital from alternative capital providers seeking high returns to infrastructure-focused funds and investment-grade lenders.

The firm is enthused by the increasing demand for sophisticated structured financing solutions which it views as an opportune time for Rothschild's foray into India's debt market. Bhojwani is optimistic about the investment opportunities across sectors. He sees growing infrastructure investments in the coming years, which are likely to attract large institutional interest.

"We have done 3,000 deals raising around $2.3 trillion in debt since 2010. So, that's giving us a unique insight into different structures," said Chris Arnold, managing director and European co-head of Infrastructure Debt Advisory.
